Kyle Snooks completed the Level 3 Digital Skills for Business qualification through Aspire 2Be while working as a Highway Maintenance Team Leader.
Recognising the increasing role of technology across the highway maintenance sector, Kyle wanted to strengthen his digital knowledge and develop the skills needed to support modern ways of working. From asset tracking and job scheduling to reporting and communication, digital systems are becoming increasingly important, and Kyle saw the qualification as an opportunity to stay ahead of industry changes and enhance his leadership capabilities.
Throughout the programme, Kyle developed a greater understanding of how digital tools and business processes can work together to improve efficiency, productivity and decision-making. The qualification helped him build confidence in using technology to support the planning, management and monitoring of maintenance activities, while also enabling more effective communication and collaboration across teams.
One of the aspects Kyle found most valuable was how directly the learning could be applied to his day-to-day role. By implementing new approaches to reporting, communication and workflow management, he was able to see the real-world impact of the skills he was developing.
The programme also helped Kyle strengthen his digital communication and data management skills. As a result, he is now able to monitor progress more effectively, organise daily tasks more efficiently and improve communication with colleagues, supervisors and other teams. In addition, the qualification gave him a broader understanding of how digital systems support wider business objectives, helping him align his team’s work more closely with organisational goals.
Alongside the learning itself, Kyle highlighted the support he received throughout the qualification as a significant part of his experience. During a difficult period following the loss of his grandfather, his tutor, Clare, was incredibly understanding and caring. With her support, Kyle was able to gradually return to his studies and successfully continue his learning journey.
Kyle also praised the support he received in the workplace from his line manager, Nathan Thomas. Having dedicated time for assignments and opportunities to apply new skills on the job helped him successfully balance work, study and personal commitments. Nathan’s encouragement and interest in Kyle’s progress played an important role in helping him make the most of the qualification.
Looking ahead, Kyle plans to build on his achievement by taking on greater leadership responsibilities and progressing towards an HNC in Engineering. The Level 3 Digital Skills for Business qualification has given him the confidence, skills and direction to continue developing his career and embrace the opportunities that digital transformation brings to the industry.
