Micro-credentials Case Study – Nicola Davies

Nicola Davies Digital Skills for Business hero

Nicola Davies completed the Digital Skills for Business Micro-Credential through Aspire 2Be after being introduced to the opportunity by her line manager.

As improving her digital skills was already part of her Continuing Professional Development (CPD) plans, Nicola was excited to take part in the course and recognised the value it could bring to her role.

With her role evolving from a classroom-based, front-facing teacher to a more computer-based trainer coach, Nicola wanted to strengthen her digital skills and ensure she could confidently keep pace with the increasing use of technology in education. The course provided an introduction to Level 2 digital skills that she could immediately apply in her day-to-day work.

Nicola found every aspect of the course beneficial, including areas where she already had some prior knowledge. While she had experience with Excel and collaboration tools, the course helped build her confidence and introduced her to new techniques, particularly around email management and using formulas in spreadsheets.

"The skills I’ve gained from this course will make a huge difference in my day-to-day responsibilities. I can now confidently use Excel to track information, analyse data, and improve overall efficiency.”

One of the most valuable aspects of the programme for Nicola was learning how to use Excel formulas to track learner progress, alongside exploring AI tools and add-ons such as Copilot. These skills have strengthened her ability to monitor and report on student performance in her role as a trainer coach.

Nicola also highlighted how the course has enabled her to move beyond relying on school-specific systems for tracking learner data. She now feels confident using Excel to track information, analyse data and improve overall efficiency. In addition, her understanding of collaborative tools has enhanced her ability to work with both colleagues and learners.

The course content was highly relevant to Nicola’s current role, covering skills such as email management, using Word and creating PowerPoint presentations, while also introducing collaborative tools that support her work in delivering training.

Overall, Nicola described the course as an excellent introduction to Level 2 digital skills. She has already shared her positive experience with learners and encouraged colleagues to consider enrolling.
