We are thrilled to share the success of our latest iBroadcast programme, delivered in partnership with Swansea University’s Careers and Employability — a fantastic collaboration that has seen students step out of their comfort zones and into the exciting world of broadcasting and social media.
Digital content is part of our everyday lives — from news updates and sports coverage to podcasts and documentaries. Yet, for many students, the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in this dynamic field is rare. That’s where iBroadcast comes in — a programme designed to give students real insight into the industry, helping them to develop valuable digital, creative, and employability skills that will serve them in any career path.
Running for the 9th consecutive year, the iBroadcast journey takes students on an immersive adventure through planning, filming, editing, and presenting — everything that goes into making a high-quality broadcast. The goal is simple: help students find their voice, build their confidence, and gain practical experience in creating professional media content for the business world.
Working alongside Aspire 2Be’s expert team and broadcasting professional Sean Holley, students received bespoke Masterclasses covering:
Planning and scripting media content
Presenting on camera and developing personal broadcast styles
Filming techniques using accessible equipment
Editing and post-production using industry-standard tools
Collaborative tools and cloud-based solutions for media projects
Each session was designed to build on core skills, giving students a foundation in media literacy, digital competence, and teamwork — all while having fun and thinking creatively.
From Classroom to Camera — What Students Created
Once equipped with the skills and knowledge, students moved on to production mode, working in teams to plan, film, and edit their own media productions for a number of local organisations. Having met with the local organisations to develop better understanding of their brands and values, the teams captured interviews, developed social media content and composed innovative strategies to expand each organisation’s current digital reach.
The results? A range of innovative, high-quality strategies that showcased the creativity, dedication and talent of the students.
Each student now has a completed showreel as a tangible portfolio piece, capturing their individual and team-based contributions. These portfolios not only demonstrate technical broadcasting skills but also reflect essential “soft” skills like communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking — all essential in today’s job market.
A Showcase of Talent
The programme culminated in an inspiring Showcase Event, where the students’ teams presented their developed strategy for campaigns and social media improvements to peers, mentors, members of the university community and local business owners. The event was a celebration of student achievement and creativity — giving participants a well-deserved platform to share their work and reflect on their journey.
“I never thought I could be on camera, but now I feel confident enough to give it a go — and maybe even consider it as a career opportunity that initially wasn’t in my plans!”
“Learning how to plan and produce something from start to finish was such a great experience — we were treated like real media professionals. I loved working as part of a team, and I’ve definitely improved my communication skills.”
Why iBroadcast Matters
Through iBroadcast, students not only gain insight into an exciting industry but also develop transferable skills that open doors to future opportunities in television, radio, digital media, the business world and beyond. The programme aligns closely with Swansea University’s mission to boost employability, making sure students are ready for the demands of today’s creative and digital sectors.
Whether students pursue a career in media or apply these new skills elsewhere, the confidence and practical experience gained through iBroadcast are invaluable.
