I work as a Teaching Assistant in St. Therese’s Primary, Port Talbot, and our Headteacher shared the Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification with the whole team.
Despite having wider qualifications, I did not have a focussed qualification in the field of Education, and so I felt this course would be beneficial for me.
The course has really helped me in my role, by allowing me to continue with my daily duties far more effectively, and I can also support the learners in my class more effectively. As I had no previous formal education training, this course has been instrumental in providing guidance for me within my role. It helped me to better understand my tasks, what is expected of me, and showed best practice and ways to work.
It has also helped me to better manage the children’s behaviour effectively in the classroom, and I am far more confident in handling the class and supporting my teachers. Ultimately, the course has really boosted my confidence in carrying out my job as a TA.
My trainer coach has been amazing, she has been very patient and helpful with assignments, and her support, guidance and motivation kept me going. I couldn’t have done it without her.
My school has been really supportive in completing the course, for which I am extremely thankful. My Headteacher and Teacher helped me by enabling me to take the time I needed to carry out assignments and tasks, helping me plan observations, and supporting me the whole way through.
I would definitely recommend this course to others. The course could at times be intensive, but I would recommend keeping patience and completing it as it is so worth it!
I felt really happy and proud of myself after I had completed my course. The cherry on the cake was the Gradu8 ceremony, which my family and I thoroughly enjoyed. It felt nice to be so appreciated!
