My line manager originally informed me about the Digital Skills micro-credentials course.
I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to complete it through the company, especially since it was already on my Continuing Professional Development (CPD) agenda for this year. As my current teaching role has become much more computer-based than before, I knew this course would be highly benefici
I was eager to enhance my digital skills, particularly as my role has evolved from being a classroom-based, front-facing teacher to a more computer-reliant trainer coach. The shift towards digital tools in education has been significant, and I wanted to ensure I was fully equipped to keep up with these changes. The course was a perfect fit, offering an introduction to Level 2 skills that I could immediately apply to my work.
I genuinely found every aspect of the course beneficial, even when it came to recapping areas I was already familiar with. For example, while I had some knowledge of Excel and collaboration tools, I previously lacked the confidence to use them effectively. The course not only reinforced my existing skills but also introduced me to new techniques, particularly around emails and using formulas in spreadsheets.
One of the standout benefits was learning how to use advanced features like Excel formulas for tracking learner progress and exploring new tools such as AI and add-ons like Copilot. These skills will be invaluable in my role as a trainer coach, especially now that I can confidently use spreadsheets to monitor and report on student performance.
The skills I’ve gained from this course will make a huge difference in my day-to-day responsibilities. Previously, I relied on school-specific systems for tracking learner data. Now, I can confidently use Excel to track information, analyse data, and improve overall efficiency. Additionally, I’m now equipped with a stronger understanding of collaborative tools, which will enhance my ability to work with colleagues and learners.
The course content was not only relevant to my current role but also widely applicable across various sectors. Skills like email management, using Word, and creating impactful PowerPoint presentations are essential, and the introduction to collaborative tools will support my work in delivering training.
I would definitely recommend this course to others as an excellent introduction to Level 2 digital skills. I’ve already shared my positive experience with a few of my learners and encouraged colleagues to consider enrolling. I’ve even broached the possibility of progressing to the full Level 2 and 3 certified courses.
For me, completing the course in person was far more effective than online learning, particularly as a kinaesthetic and visual learner. Having a tutor present with a small group was incredibly valuable, as it allowed us to ask questions and explore other IT skills that came up during the sessions. Working alongside other learners in my department was also beneficial, as we could discuss practical ways to use the new collaboration tools in our roles.
