Our Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification offers an innovative approach for school support staff to develop in their role.

The programme is designed to further develop existing knowledge and skills, whilst also providing specific learning pathways to develop expertise across key areas of education. Learners will also develop a range of digital skills and explore how technology can play a central role in supporting a range of teaching and learning scenarios.

Designed by educators, for educators – our learning pathways are based on ‘lived experience’ within the education sector and provide contextualised learning experiences, relevant to roles and responsibilities.

Our course is ideal for teaching assistants, higher level teaching assistants, learning support staff, learning assistants, and school support staff.

What To Expect From Our Supporting Teaching & Learning Course

Our qualifications are designed to provide an innovative route to apprenticeship completion with collaborative learning being central to your experience. You can expect support on many different levels, which include the A2B Hub – our online learning platform is a central hub for you to access learning content and engage in collaborative learning.

You will also have exclusive access to AspirEd – our digital skills development platform, which offers a wide range of self paced courses focussed on teaching and learning with technology.

Our range of INSPIRE Workshops will help you to explore module content and consolidate learning, along with support in the workplace, through one to one virtual and face to face support sessions, specific to you and your working context.

Our Supporting Teaching and Learning course can be studied through online and distance learning, with online resources available to you 24/7. You’ll be learning from the experts, as our trainer coaches all have extensive industry experience and knowledge.

When you complete your qualification, you will be awarded a nationally recognised, fully accredited qualification.

Levels 2 & 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning

Our qualification provides you with the tools to develop the applied knowledge and skills for modern education, with the added benefit of understanding how digital can support wider school objectives. Suitable for Teaching Assistants, Higher Level Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Learning Support Officers, Learning Support Staff, Learning coaches, and Support assistants.

Learners can choose from two bespoke learning pathways or a combination of both, depending on your role:

  • Supporting Teaching & Learning – understand the role and responsibilities for supporting teaching and learning. Develop key knowledge and skills to support the whole class, group, and individual support, including gifted and talented learners.
  • Supporting Additional Learning Needs – develop key knowledge and skills to support learners with additional learning needs.

What You Will Learn During Your Supporting Teaching & Learning Qualification

You will understand the role and associated responsibilities of supporting teaching and learning in schools, and understand how to leverage technology to support your role and responsibilities. This will include how technology can support teaching and learning, in class, group, and individual learning scenarios

You will explore the Additional Learning Needs (ALN) transformation programme (Wales), including key legislation and statutory guidance. This will include understanding the role of digital in facilitating inclusive learning opportunities and supporting learners with additional learning needs.

You will develop key digital skills and awareness of tools to support personalised learning experiences, be able to identify personal and professional development areas to support role specific activities, and enhance your CV with a recognised, transferable, and fully accredited qualification.

What Happens After Your Supporting Teaching & Learning Training?

Following completion of the course, you will have achieved a Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (total of 44 credits minimum). You will also hold Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Digital Literacy at Level 2.

You will receive a certificate as proof of your newly gained, fully accredited qualification and will be invited to attend Educ8’s Gradu8 ceremony, where you will get the chance to celebrate your fantastic achievement!

Supporting Teaching & Learning Apprenticeships In Wales FAQS

To be eligible for our fully-funded course, you must be in a teaching assistant or school support role within a school or learning organisation. You can be new to your role, or a current, experienced member of staff already in employment. You must be working in Wales, and employed for 16 hours a week or more. As part of the apprenticeship, you will be required to meet with your trainer coach monthly (approximately 1.5-2 hours) and to engage in learning content and assignments around your schedule.  Time can vary from person to person, but in total, you can expect to attribute between 5 and 8 hours per month.
