Through this course, you will develop a clear understanding of artificial intelligence, building the confidence to discuss and evaluate AI in a workplace setting. You'll gain a high-level understanding of AI terminology, ethics, data and governance, helping you make informed decisions about how AI can support your organisation.
This course covers key AI terms and milestones, ethics and the UK AI Principles, the enablers of AI including machine learning and generative AI, and how data is prepared and used. You will also explore how organisations identify and govern AI opportunities, and how AI is shaping roles and society. With Aspire 2Be’s hands-on approach, you will reinforce each topic with practical exercises that reflect real-world scenarios. The AI Essentials course provides a solid introduction to artificial intelligence, and prepares you to take part in AI conversations with confidence.

The AI Essentials exam is delivered online under remote supervision and assesses your knowledge of AI terminology, ethics, data, organisational use and future impact. You will have 30 minutes to answer 20 multiple choice questions. The exam is closed book and the pass mark is 65% (13 out of 20). On passing, you earn the BCS Essentials Certificate in Artificial Intelligence.
