Project Spotlight: Haverfordwest High

In 2018 when two secondary schools in West Wales were merged, it became apparent that when the two separate teams of staff began to work together, there were very different processes and procedures in place. The training, tools and methodologies of the separate sets of teaching staff were not consistent, and it also highlighted that the hardware available to staff was outdated and not strictly fit for purpose…

In order to align working processes, and refresh the available hardware, Aspire 2Be were brought in to construct a Digital Transformation plan. It was imperative that prior to the opening of the new school, staff were able to access Professional Development to ensure that teaching and learning was embedded with effective use of technology. On a broader scope, this plan also aimed to effectively integrate Google technology into every Haverfordwest High School classroom.

In order to create a Professional Development Roadmap for the school, the first step was to conduct a skills gap assessment. This enabled the establishment of a rollout plan, with clearly identified milestones and timelines. A team of Digital Champions were then initially identified, and went on to complete their Google Certified Educator Level 1 accreditation. Following this, all staff were then able to access face-to-face sessions with Aspire 2Be that aimed to support and implement the tools effectively, alongside having 24/7 access to our e-learning platform, AspirEd.

Upon the successful completion of the rollout plan, Haverfordwest High became fully invested as a school community in using Google Workspace for all aspects of teaching and learning. 100% of staff have now achieved their Google Certified Educator Level 1, whilst members of the Digital Empowerment Steering Group are all Level 2 qualified and working towards Google Certified Trainer status. As such a successful example of a secondary school utilising Google Workspace, staff have had the opportunity to present on various national and international webinars, presenting their journey and experiences and recently achieved recognition from Google themselves when Haverfordwest High became one of the first secondary schools in Wales to be identified as a Google Reference School.

A highlights reel of the Digital Transformation project has been created and can be viewed below. To start your own Digital Transformation project, please feel free to get in touch with us at Aspire 2Be.
